Posting Your Work....

When posting your design work to the blog, briefly answer these questions about the work.....

5 Squares designs- for each design, explain what the squares are doing, and how you used visual clues to help us understand it.....

Mention any of these topics in your answer-
• the squares location in the design space
• their orientation (diagonal, horizontal, etc.)
• how close together they are

Book designs- Describe what the focal point of each design was, and describe what is the best part of your design....

Some Design Inspiration!!!

Here are some designer's websites and examples of their work to get you goin'

JOSHUA DAVIS is a web designer, who uses Illustrator to create shapes from observation. He wrote code that plots out patterns using his shapes- he then chooses results he likes and develops them into his art.

Very smart, creative guy.

Samples of his work....

David Carson, best known for revolutionizing graphic design and the use of TYPE in design. Look how he works the negative space!!!

I'm Out Today....

Hey Guys,

I'm out of school until Wednesday- I'm with my daughter at the National History Day Event in Washington , it's a pretty cool competition for high school kids who create projects (presentations, web sites, posters, video, etc) about events in history. You guys would do well in this competition with your design skills and creative ideas.

If you want to see more about it go here @ http://www.nhd.org/About.htm

Please note the posts listed below- one for the class evaluation, one about posting info on your final project. I took the folder of printed 20X30's next door to be sure they were entered in the competition- Matt F and others who want to enter theirs must print today, and pass it in to the art teachers next door (like Mrs. Hanczar). I told them you may be dropping of prints, and they are looking for your work.

I posted directions for printing on the blog- Mike did a great job on his, so you could also ask him!

Have a good day- I'll see you Wednesday

POSTING THE FINAL

When posting images of your final project, discuss your ideas and solutions by answering these questions about your work:

TOPIC

What was your topic?

What do you hope to achieve/ change by communicating  your message?

How will your audience "get" the message? What process will they go through?

CREATIVITY

Discuss how you used these design characteristics to communicate your message: document size, shape, color/ no color, orientation, use of images, use of type, use of software techniques, materials (paper, others).

DESIGN

How did you organize your creation in regard to the principals of design?
    - what's the focal point?
    - how do we move through it?
    - is it balanced?
    - is there variety?
    - how did you use positive/ negative space?

PRINTING 20 X 30

Because our large format printer is broken.... we have to print using the EPSON 1400 (called Boris).

That means you have to set up the printer to "tile" your work onto FOUR sheets of 13 X19 paper. Here's how

First, create a new page in Illustrator, set to 20X30 inches....

Then "place" the photoshop image and arrange it onto the art board... here's the image...

Drawing by "Cody" in digital drawing...

Then set up the print dialog box to match these settings....

Notice the "tile" feature is on and the "overlap" is set for 1/2 inch..... that's the glue area...

see how the preview shows the tiling?

Then print and glue the pieces together!!!!!
