ADDING the PDF of your book to your blog

Try this technique out...... you should have access to Google docs, because you signed into blogger,,,,,

if that is so, you can use their code to add the PDF..

Here is a step by step of how... @ http://www.mybloggerlab.com/2013/03/how-to-embed-pdf-and-other-documents-in-blogger-posts.html

Mess With the Web! ...... a project

Creatively use the effects of scrolling, resolution, and computer monitors different from paper, to create an artwork that evokes CHANGE from start to finish.

Use Photoshop as the primary software tool..... SKILLS include: Image resolution, image size, RGB mode and loading to the blog.

Here is a screenshot of the Photoshop page set up for you..... the SIZE may change but the RESOLUTION is set for 72 and mode is "RGB".

REQUIREMENTS: post at least three versions of your design to have evidence of your creative process.

IDEAS: look at previous student's solutions on the class' blog.

Here are some links to other samples @http://wawacdesign.blogspot.com/2013/04/mess-with-web-project.html

Posting the Book

After posting your book answer these questions about your work:

1. What was your "theme"? How does your use of images, type, and effects help your audience understand the theme?

2. How does your book design show your use of a "structure"- throught the use of a grid, or  columns....

*please post a screenshot (command+shift+4) showing your use of the grid or columns in InDesign.

3. What is the best part of your book design? Why?

PDF your Book!

To get your pages on the blog, you need to save them as PDF's first, then place them in Photoshop, then save them for the web as jpegs.....

that process keeps the details intact.... aparently InDesign isn't so great for converting to the web....

Here's some screen shots of how that works...

Firt, change your document color mode to RGB... that matches how a monitor displays colors.

Then, export as a PDF

 Name and save it...

Select how it is to be saved.....

Then open the PDF in Photoshop.... notice you must choose multiple pages to open..

here's my book saved.....

InDesign Help- Part 3!

Here is another WONDERFUL collection of ideas and tips for using InDesign.... is great!

Check out the link @http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2011/03/17/indesign-tips-i-wish-i-d-known-when-starting-out/

The InDesign Challenge!

Let's combine your software skills with the "structures"of columns and the grid.

CREATE a 10 page book, using InDesign, that describes the message of a song or poem. Use type as the dominant visual objects in the book. Solve these design challenges:

1. Use the words of the poem/song lyric as the dominant visuals in the book

2. Show your use of a grid, or column structure to hold the book together.

3. Have an area of EMPHASIS on pages and in the book itself

4. Work with color, or black and white

5. Show VARIETY in the book design.

Document size is 10 pages, CMYK color settings, each page is "letter half" in size (5.5X8.5).

*Use Photoshop and Illustrator to create images, but build the book in InDesign.

CREATING WITH THE GRID

Use a grid to build an image, using type only.....

The resulting design should demonstrate your understanding and using these ideas:

1. CHANGES across the grid lines in size, value, color, texture, shape....

2. CONNECTIONS across the grid lines ...

3. VARIETY of all elements.... build visual interest

4. EMPHASIS lead us to notice one or more areas as important.

5. GRID structure should be noticable, but not DOMINANT when we delete the grid lines...

CONSIDER that you might break off the grid as a way to get EMPHASIS

Print your design, and post it to your blog-

Ideas For The Band Logo Project....

Design a logo for a "contemporary punk" band.....

The logo will be used on a t-shirt, so it must be printed black on white.... no greys.

Look at the design books we have in class for some ideas about the "look" of the shirt design....

Use either, or both Illustrator and Photoshop top create the design.

This is the scanned logo drawing given to us......
