"Outside The Box" a type poster

Create a 12X18 inch design
that conveys a message using emotional and literal means.

The poster must use type as the DOMINANT element...

The poster must use at least one of the "outside the  box" techniques...

The poster must show your understanding and use of the PRINCIPALS of DESIGN......

(they are: balance, movement, variety, emphasis, and unity)

Waaaay Outside The Box

Let me get your creativity going with several "quick" Typography design problems....

Post images solving each of these tasks to your blog and explain how yours is a good solution....

1. Create an image of type using cast shadows and light....

2. Create an image showing type using distortion in a reflection...

3. Create an image showing type
--> installed as a three dimensional letter form in a space

4. Create an image showing type made out of non-traditional materials

5. Create an image showing type drawn with non traditional tools (sponge, branches, etc.)

Wanna Design a T-Shirt?

Here is the information from Mrs. Rice about the group.....

Your design should reflect these ideas with symbols, shapes, letters, numbers, etc.

She says, "we would like the logo to include the following in some way:

EYW
Empowering Young Woman
Woodstock Academy

The program is focused on building confidence and connections through experience. We engage in a variety of experiences so that the members are able to be exposed to new and different things. In addition, we have a community service goal as well. we address issues that are facing young women and simply provide a safe and comfortable place for them to grow, learn, share and have fun!"

new test

I was using the "Mosaic" filter to get some of the pixels to seem larger..

Mess With The Web, project

Here is a quick project to challenge you to be creative and take risks with your work....

Create several images to be displayed on you blog- not to be printed..

Make your design respond to these attributes of the web and blogs:

1.  SCROLLING- your work should use the scrolling as an important part of the layout of your image.

2. PIXELS- manipulate the idea that your work is displayed by a collection of DOTS and marks..... what if you enlarged those pixels?

3. CLARITY against things that are HIDDEN... thin about how fog hides information..

4. CHANGE- make your design change as the viewer scrolls through to see it. How can the change help the message of the work come through?

SKILLS to use:

Work in Photoshop for the best results.... 72 dpi resolution

Work with the "Mosaic" filter to get a pixelated effect..

Another Test

This one is 12" X36"

72 dpi resolution

Uploaded and set to "original size"

let's see how it works......

Mess With The Web

Here's the link @ http://wawacdesign.blogspot.com/2012/03/experiment.html

Create a design that manipulates the scrolling effect of the blog's layout....

Use at least three of the Elements of Design in creating your work....

Also! Manipulate the idea of RESOLUTION and "Clarity" in your work..... think of how fog makes things see to vanish.....

A Quick Design Challenge

Design a logo for the plastics team....

Here's the info for that:

"Our company name is Jupiter Power and we were hoping the logo could include a lightning bolt, the Jupiter planet symbol and our company name. We wanted the lightning bolt to probably be yellow and orange and then have a black background and white letters and symbol. However, it is mainly up to you and your class.

Thank you so much
